Merry Christmas "2007 The year of the singing tooth brush"

We had a great Christmas. We had a great turnout to our Christmas Eve candlelight service, it was in the mid 80's. It's still hard to get into the Christmas spirit as you sweat over a candle. We missed not having Brandon with us on Christmas this year but we are proud of him and Amy and we plan to go up to Dallas on the 31th.

Darla and Brittany got singing tooth brushes in their stockings this year. That was a big hit. The tooth brush plays music when you brush. Darla's plays Ricky Martin's "Living the vida loca" and Brittany's plays a Kelly Clarkson song.

We had Church members from the Spanish side of our church and our neighbors over for Christmas Dinner today. We had turkey, ham, and more food than we could eat. Our neighbor literally took a wheelbarrow of leftovers home.

Christmas dinner in our new house in Paamul.
I was not joking about the wheelbarrow of leftovers.

Great Day!

Highlights from 2007

It’s really hard for me to believe that there are only 4 days until Christmas. Our family has gone through a lot of changes this year but that is the norm for mission life. As I look back over 2007 the highlights would be, Brandon and Amy’s wedding, the starting of the new Spanish speaking church in Paamul, and building our new mission home.

Brandon and Amy were married last Feb. They are now living in Dallas Brandon is working as an accountant with Grant Thornton and Amy is teaching school. They have just bought their first home in the Dallas area.

This is Ruben and the praise team in Spanish..... We launch this new church in April 2007...We launch the Spanish speaking church in Paamul. We have seen God changing lives through our worship services in Paamul and our small group. We believe God is going to use this group to make a big impact in 08….

We started building our house in August of this year and we hope to move in Monday.

7 more days until Christmas

Our daughter Brittany is coming in tomorrow to spend Christmas with us here in Mexico. We are planning to all to North Carolina on the 26th and then to Dallas to is our Son Brandon on the 30th. Only a few things to do before we are ready for this. We hope to start moving into our house on Wed. We are still not going to have water until Jan. but we need to go on and move in.

We are working on the gas, electricity and plumbing today.... We need your prayers that all this will come together today.

When you think of Christmas we think of Peace, or a silent night but the first Christmas was really not a silent night.

I like that new Randy Travis Song "LABOR OF LOVE"

It was not a silent night, there was blood on the ground
You could hear a woman cry in the alleyway that night on the streets of David's town
And the stable was not clean and the cobblestones were cold
And little Mary full of grace with tears upon her face had no mother's hand to hold
It was a labor of pain, it was a cold sky above
But for the girl on the ground in the dark with every beat of her beautiful heart
It was a labor of love
Noble Joseph by her side, No midwives to be found on the streets of David's town in the middle of the night
So he held her and he prayed, shafts of moonlight on his face
But the baby in her womb, he was the maker of the moon
He was the Author of the Faith that could make the mountains move
It was a labor of pain, it was a cold sky above
But for the girl on the ground in the dark with every beat of her beautiful heart
It was a labor of love
For little Mary full of grace, with tears on her face
It was a labor of love
It was not a silent night, on the streets of David's town

We got our kitchen sink installed at our new mission house only one minor problem no water yet.... When I was with the IMB they had a rule that you could not build your own home now I am beginning to understand why they made that rule... We are saving a lot of money by building this house ourselves and it's going to be really nice but there have been a lot of headaches a along the way. Speaking of headaches Darla seems to be doing great. She goes back to the doctor in Cancun on Monday... Thanks for your prayers for her...

I have been a Christian for 37 years and I still don't understand prayer but I do know this, the bible teaches that we are to pray believing. It also says we have not because we ask not and when we ask we ask a miss. Prayer helps me to remember that God is God and we are not...

I have begun to pray about everything, big and small. Trying to pray prayers with a pure heart in faith believing. I thing we ask a miss when we pray a selfish prayers or we pray without a pure heart.

The workers at the house site are not believers but they want us to pray for them. They are seeing God anwser our prayers and they are asking more and more questions.

13 Days until Christmas

It really hard to believe that we are less than two weeks away from Christmas. With all the time we have spent in the hospital this past month some how we missed the lead up to the Christmas season. It's hard to get in the mood to put up the tree when it's 88 degrees and you are sweating.

I don't know about you but I do not want to miss Christmas.
When it comes to Christmas the researchers tell us that people go through Christmas in one of three ways.

Four out of ten are going to go through Christmas thinking about the past. You wish for another place in time... You will always be thinking about the good old days then you evaluate and you dwell there on Christmas past.

Five out of ten of you are futurists. You’re always kind of one step ahead of Christmas. We’ve got to go to the store, we’ve got to get the wrapping paper, we have to go the mall, we have to go to that party. You’re just kind of thinking one step ahead. You’re not really in the moment. You’re thinking of the next thing that you need to do.

Then researchers tell us that only one in ten of us will actually be able to hit the pause button and leave the past and not be so concerned about the future but actually get out of those two places to come into the moment and to catch a moment. It’s not that we eliminate preparation or we eliminate memories. It’s just that this Christmas affords us some opportunities and some moments and if we’re not careful we’ll miss them.

It's a Thanksgiving Day Miracle!

Darla is coming home from the hospital today…. She is still in some pain but the doctors feel she is well enough to go home and that is great news!

I know we use the term “miracle” a lot these days, but when you see so many people praying and then you see God’s hand at work in a way that even surprises the doctors.
All you can say to the skeptics is “I was blind but now I see”

The first Thanksgiving was a celebration of survival. It’s not about turkey or football although those things are good. This year we feel like the folks must have felt in 1621 on that Plymouth Plantation. By the grace of God we are here and we are thankful to God and to you.

I hope you can see the HAND of GOD in this healing…. And maybe God can use this experience of Darla in some way to help you celebrate this Thanksgiving Day.

Special thanks to all those who help us get out pray request out:

Please keep praying for our health and our work in Playa Del Carmen

Darla is now out of the ICU but she is still in a lot of pain. The doctor says he plans to do another MRI tomorrow we should know a little more after this test. Thanks so much for your prayers. Keep praying we are not out of the woods yet.

Many are asking how can they help. We always need more financial support for the work down here but now the truth is unless God does something special I don't know how we are going to make it through this financially. We do have insurance and it will pay a lot of the cost but our bill so far is over $11,000 US . We have to pay up front so we my have a cash flow problem soon. We are trusting God and we are not to proud to boldly ask you to help. We believe in what we are doing down here and we need your help but we also want you to share in the blessing of being a part of changing lives.

If you feel God leading you to help you can send checks to:
Global Community Fellowship
1904 Red Bud Cir.
Greenville NC 27858

Please ask your church to pray about supporting the work down here of a monthly bases. We believe Darla is going to be back on her feet soon and there is a lot of work to do here if you are not already a supporter please pray about what God would have you do.

update on Darla

She had a good night.... She was able to eat a little for the first time... Doctor was hopeful that she could come out of ICU soon....

Rediscovering what really matters

Thanks so much for your prayers. Darla is still in ICU but she was feeling a little better today. I know our Lord is answering your prayers. Please keep praying.

In times like these I am relearning that it is all about relationships. The most important things aren't things. Last week I thought the color of our bathroom tile for our new house was an important matter. God has a way of getting us back on focus.

I have been overwhelmed today by the outpouring of love and support. My wife Darla is truly a peace maker. I guess I expected our church friends to express their love and support and they sure did in a big way but what I was not ready for was the large number of non church people that Darla has loved and influenced. Today this older lady came up to me on the street and she started hugging me and telling me how much she loved my wife. I guess she was a strong catholic because she started doing the sign of the cross and telling me she was praying her fiend Darla. If that was not enough the boss of our street guards told his men as he began to cry ,"I am not a Christain but I want you to pray for Darla, they are doing good things here "

Then I went to eat tonight at Fridays in Cancun. We have had the same waiter there for ten years. The waiter told me how much to cared about Darla and or family..... He is pictured here... He is not a believer yet but our family has influenced his life.

Darla is in ICU and they only let me visit 4 times a day each visit can be 15 minutes .

The visiting times are 8am, 11am ,4pm and 7pm . Today I was there at 8am and I talked to the doctor he said that every thing is going as he expected. Darla is still in some pain but the doctor said that is expected.

I worshiped with the English Church in Cancun this morning . Marco did a great job and the music is great. Today they are changing the name of the church . As they join the Community of Faith church in Houston.

Cancun Praise team

I went back to hospital for the 11am visit.

After that I drove back south to Paamul and I baptized three new believers. It was a great day in Paamul we has about 65 people in our Spanish service and the English service was a full house.

After that I drove back to hopital in Cancun for my 4 pm visit

I waited around for the 7pm visit.... She was more upbeat but there is still some pain.

Full day...

Thanks so much for your prayers

We are still going forward.

Catch the wave!

I have always had a great desire to be part of a great movement of God, impacting lives through the power of God and in turn changing a culture for His Glory. Like the novice surfer who is looking for that one big wave. He has had a few pretty good wipe outs along the way but now he is tried of wasting time with the small stuff. He still has dreams of riding that perfect wave that will change his life forever. Now he sees a great wave building... He is asking, "is this the one?" , "Am I ready?" FEAR comes in as the wave continue to build. I don't know if I can take another wipe out... How does the surfer overcome his fears?

To push this surfing analogy a little further. When I see the "perfect wave" I was the one that would always yell at my buddy ,"this is your wave, take it!". Recently a friend of mine told me if God has given you a vision , Go FOR IT! Quit trying to pass your vision off on someone else.

I see a great wave building in the Mayan Rivera of Mexico and God has given me a vision..... Please pray that I will have the faith that will over come all fear and that I will Catch God's Wave.

Update on the house construction

We are now working on the inside of the house and things a moving a little slower. We hope to be in the house by Christmas...

I learned a few years ago after spending two weeks standing in line to get my licence plates, you have got to look for a ministry opportunity in everything you do in Mexico or you will sure waste a lot of time. With that said, this house project has been a great opportunity for ministry.... I practice my Spanish sermons on these guys everyday. That accomplishes two things, one it helps me with my Spanish and two it encourages the workers to finish our house faster.

Volunteer team from Rabbit Creek A great day!

The team from Rabbit Creek painted a pastor's house in Playa this morning and this afternoon they handed out fliers to invite folks to a block party tomorrow night.

The bunnies grow large in Rabbit Creek, Alaska. The team is building a lot of excitement in a middle class neighborhood in Playa for tomorrow's block party. Pray for this event tomorrow night at 6:30pm our time. We are going to be serving tamales and playing games with the kids. We are promoting this as an event to meet your neighbors in the new middle class neighbor. We hope to have many of our church people there informally talking about our church and inviting them to visit. Pray Pray pray!
